Leadership - James Bayer Award

 

Awarded annually to a senior, core term student in Community Development (formerly Recreation Management) for expressed qualities of leadership, fellowship, and professionalism. The recipient of the award is chosen annually by members of the senior core term class.

Alisha Christie

Alisha brings a creative and infectious enthusiasm to everyone she spends time with and everything she does, whether it is working to do her best for others, or encouraging someone with a "you can do it", or facilitating groups so that everyone accomplishes their best work. Alisha is a wonderful servant leader who makes everyone better around her. She has been a leader in Residence Life across her Acadia years, has had numerous leadership roles including chairperson in the ESST Students Society, hs worked a an environmental educator at the Morton Centre, facilitated numerous social entrepreneurship projects on campus, and acted in and choreographed the dance for community theatre productions by Fezziwig and the Women of Wolfville, and that is just to name a few of her endeavours!~

About James Bayer

James Bayer was a pioneer in the field of recreation in Nova Scotia and was a faculty member and Dean of the School of Recreation and Physical Education 1975-85. This award was started by his students in his memory when he died from cancer at age 47. The James Bayer Award is a plaque awarded annually to a senior, core term student in Community Development (formerly Recreation Management) for expressed qualities of leadership, fellowship, and professionalism.
