What I Learned
My degree provided me with an excellent foundation of experience and knowledge to begin my career in protected areas management. Since graduation from Acadia I've been fortunate to have worked in the National Park Service in the U.S., the Alberta provincial park service and in Scotland with the country's first National Park - Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. In addition, the degree gave me experience in team work and helped me to develop effective communication skills with the support and guidance of a very knowledgeable and accessible team of professors.
My Acadia Highlights
When I think back to my time at Acadia I remember the friendships that I developed with my fellow classmates and the tremendous opportunities that were provided to me by the teaching staff. The size of the university afforded a closely knit learning environment with all the positive outcomes associated with such a setting. I had a particular interest in outdoor recreation and parks and protected areas and I remember fondly taking part in a wide range of outdoor activities such as canoeing, skiing, hiking, and cycling. Acadia provided me with that rare combination of academic excellence, encouragement and opportunity to explore my growing interest in the field of parks and protected areas.
