I took a year off after graduation to work and went back to Trent University to complete a Bachelor of Education in Peterborough, Ontario. I am now teaching grade 7-8 in a Montessori School in Ottawa where I combine my programming and outdoor skills from Recreation Managment with my teacher training. In previous years I have worked at Kinark Outdoor Centre for child and adult mental health, Everdale Organic Farm as the Local Food Education Coordinator, and Nyquest Training & Placement as the Assistant Placement Director - training international staff to work at summer camps.

What I Learned

The Recreation Management Degree has carried me into all of the jobs I have had to date, including my current teaching position. My in and out of the class experiences developed my skills and confidence in leadership, project coordination, and alternative education. My degree gave me a resume of experiences that allows me to work wherever my interests take me.

My Acadia Highlights

I have countless moments during my studies at Acadia that stand out but one of the ones I most value was the journey I undertook in writing an honours thesis. Odd and dry as it may sound, the amount of personal growth and skill development I gained from it has already gotten me many terrific jobs. I enjoyed it because of the ample room I was allowed to study what I was passionate about, making what I thought would feel like a lot of work - a really engaging experience.
