Although many students ask me if I draw cartoons, my role is to support healthy living initiatives in schools and empower students to be leaders in their school. Every day is different for me. One day I train elementary students in a variety of different recess games to teach their peers. Another day I'm helping schools decide on a fundraiser that fits their needs and the NS Food & Nutrition Policy.
What I Learned
My RM Degree is a key reason why I am here today (in fact, it is one of the requirements in the job description!). It gave me hands-on skills, such as after school programming and workshop presentations, as well as the theory to understand, question, and research health promotion in schools. There was a lot to learn with my job and my degree gave me the skills and confidence to learn quickly.
My Acadia Highlights
I have so many great memories from my time at Acadia - the 1st year orientation camp to meet all my classmates and professors (how many students get to say that?), the RM end of year banquet, working with Professor Scott Hennigar and youth-at-risk on the high ropes course, and traveling to Lennox Island, PEI with Dr. John Colton and fellow classmates for our Community Tourism Development course. But I have to say, my favourite Acadia moment was walking across the stage at Convocation Hall to receive my RM degree. It's a moment you'll never forget.
