Masters Student
University of Waterloo
I am currently finishing my Masters in Recreation and Leisure studies. My research is on the community recreation experiences of children with developmental disabilities. I've been interviewing families to find out about how their children are integrated or segregated in community recreation.
What I Learned
My RM degree gave me the inspiration to understand how we can best provide positive recreation experiences to all members of our communities. I have been successful at graduate school, earning a prestigious scholarship, because of the experiences, writing skills and education I gained from the BRM program. From my time in the RM program I learned about the positive impact recreation has on our lives, that recreation makes life better by helping people to learn new skills, make new friends, and deal with the stress of everyday life.
My Acadia Highlights
My favourite thing about Acadia and the RM program was how close I became with my classmates and professors. The relationships in the BRM program are truly unique and amazing. I built some really incredible friendships and social networks that have benefited me in many ways. My RM connections have helped in getting jobs after university, navigating my graduate work and remaining the awesome "Reckie" that I am today. I have remained in close contact with almost everyone from my graduating year.
