Focusing on the people side of change, I design, deliver and execute corporate training and communication strategies, internally and with our clients (the Canadian Government, and the Canada Post group of companies). I co-lead a team of employees who administer, direct and organize our employee corporate involvement in community development and charitable activities. We facilitate opportunities of teambuilding for our employees to run, walk, cycle, and paddle in many community fundraisers (example: Ottawa Dragonboat Festival, Habitat for Humanity, MS Bike Tour). We've directly raised over $1M in 5 years. I'm inspired when I see my employees engaged in make a difference, caring about issues and causes in our local communities.
What I Learned
Inspired by my term on the Board of Directors of Recreation Nova Scotia as the student representative, I led a group of volunteer students to faciltiate the Live and Learn International Recreation Student Conference held at Acadia; attracting more than 110 students, faculty, and industry professionals from across North America. My degree allowed me to combine leadership, teambuilding, programming and communication training with a solid business administration background. The Faculty are more than professors; they are mentors, and friends; who cultivate an inspiring learning atmosphere, inside and outside the classroom. The depth of commitment and dedication the faculty and staff have to the development of each student, as a person is second to none.
My Acadia Highlights
Acadia has provided for me memories and friendships that I will carry with me for life. From sliding down U-Hall lawn on a meal hall tray after the first snowfall, to staring at the stars on a warm spring night from the Tully beach, the beauty of Acadia and the Annapolis Valley has rooted the Acadia Spirit deeply in me, providing immense social, personal and spiritual growth. Embracing a philosophy of working hard, and playing harder, there is no shortage of fun to be had at a university in a small town where all your professors know your name.
