Community Planner
Dillon Consulting Lid.
Yellowknife, NWT
My job takes me to many small First Nation Communities throughout Canada's Northwest and Nunavut Territories where I have the privilege of engaging and working with the local citizens.
What I Learned
As a student in the Recreation Management program, I developed a strong interest in community development. Understanding community dynamics, how they work and why they are invaluable in all places, both small and large are invaluable to my current position as a Community Planner. The practical experience I gained through my class assignments, which required us to engage the university as well as the local community significantly contributed to my ability in also engaging some of Canada's most remote Communities. The small community of Wolfville, allowed me develop close relationships that have remained strong.
My Acadia Highlights
A high light for me were the many social events, which were always present. As recreation students, event planning was part of our curriculum; it was a fantastic way to become involved in both school and the greater community. Acadia was a very important part of my life; an experience I will never take for granted.
